How This Company Came to Be
I always find it interesting to learn of how companies got their start or what the impetus might have been for the founders to forge into the business world on their own. The seed for AHA WoodWorks was planted well over 45 years ago. Sitting on the front porch of my Grandparents house in Bardstown, Kentucky, for as long as I can remember, were two white adirondack chairs. As a child, I loved to climb into those chairs and make believe they were the captain’s seat of a huge airplane or boat. Those chairs were a part of the family. They were a place to relax after a great meal, a gathering spot at family reunions or a place to rest after playing tag with my cousins. It was certainly, where we were to find Granddaddy enjoying the most recent Louis L’Amour novel.
I have fond memories of going to Gran and Granddaddy’s house, seeing my cousins, aunts and uncles; and nestled into those memories are those two chairs. That’s why, about 15 years ago, I set out to buy a couple of Adirondack chairs for my own home. Much to my dismay, I sat in many uncomfortable, rickety chairs that would surely fall apart or rot within a few years. So, I built my own. I liked it enough to build a second and third chair. With each one, the design was modified for comfort and durability. My brother-in-law, Morris, thought they were worthy enough for his backyard so he and I built two out of center cut redwood with more design modifications. Eventually, several neighbors and friends asked me to build chairs for them. With encouragement from close friends AHA WoodWorks, Inc. was born and The Ultimate Adirondack was officially introduced. We are enjoying the growth, but more importantly, the satisfaction from our customers.
My hope is that you will give our products a try. As fast paced as our world is today, it’s nice to have a place all your own, to relax, whether it be in your backyard, patio or garden… to “sit a spell” as we say here in the south. Who knows, maybe our chair will be a part of your family memories too. If you are wondering, Granddaddy’s chairs are still in use today, they reside at my cousin Bobby’s home.
The story doesn’t end there…. because our outdoor business is seasonal, we expanded into custom cabinetry. Our preference is to work directly with homeowners and turning your project into a unique reality. Whether it’s a simple piece of furniture to fit that awkward space or a full fledged kitchen remodel, we sweat the details, quality first. Please check us out, and thanks for stopping by our online home. May God bless you and your family.
